On August 8, 2017, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) held the 1st International Geography Seminar (iGeos-UPI) at UPI Campus in Bandung, and the theme of this seminar was "Harmony with Nature: Strengthening Relationship between Human and Environment". This seminar organized by Department of Geography Education, Faculty of Education and Social Science, Master Program Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung.
The speakers of this conference were Prof. Shyang-Woei Lin (National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan), Prof. Robert Wiley (University of Houston), Dr. Ir. Nurwadjedi, M.Sc. (Deputy of Thematic Geospatial Information of BIG) and Prof. Dr. Muh. Aris Marfai, M.Sc., (Universitas Gadjah Mada). All presentations presented by them mostly related to nature and environmental changes, and the most interesting presentation is "Ecosystem based disaster risk reduction in coastal" presented by Prof. Dr. Aris Marfai, M.Sc., about flood caused by climate change and land subsidence in North Beach (Pantura) of Central Java.
Selected papers and posters were presented after the main event in parallel sessions and presented based on main group of research topic. I had a chance to present my working paper in GIS technology entitled "Implementation of Spatial Data Infrastructure in Cianjur District for Disaster Risk Management Purposes". This research was conducted by Dr. Saut Sagala from School of Architecture, Planning and Policy Development, Institute of Technology Bandung and Irsyad Kharisma, S.T. from Spatial System Center, Resilience Development Initiative, and mainly focus on flood disaster using GIS-based simulation to find flood prone area in Cianjur and validate the simulation results using Cianjur Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Cianjur) data of flood occurrences and also through interview of BPBD officer who also responsible for disaster data and analysis.
