On 8th -9th May 2017, RDI had the opportunity to attend in the 4th Annual Scientific Meeting of Disaster Research in University of Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia. This Event was organized by Indonesian Disaster Experts Association (AIBI) and National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, and University of Indonesia. The Annual Scientific Meeting of Disaster Research is an annual event that aims to explore the role of science and technology in disaster management in Indonesia, and focus on theme "The Role of The Community for The Achievement of SDGs: Stakeholder Contribution to Reducing Disaster Risk". The participants were come from various organization in Indonesia, such as National and Local Government, Non-Government Organization (NGO) and also University. This meeting consists of panel discussion, exhibition, scientific poster, film screening, excursion study and international seminar.
The first day was opened by Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, then followed with discussion panel in different rooms. RDI had the opportunity to join in Discussion Panel Theme 2#, with specific topic "Capacity of science and technology (ITC) based on local wisdom as a system of monitoring and evaluation in community to implement disaster risk reduction (DRR)". This discussion panel begin with presentation of Invited Speaker, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Maarif. Msi (Head of BNPB 2008-2015), Prof. Ir. Widjojo Adi Prakoso, M.Sc., Ph.D (University of Indonesia) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Jan Sopaheluwakan M.Sc. (Geo-technology Research Center, LIPI).
The second day was International Seminar with topic "Contributing of Science and technology for DRR". there are lectures by Assoc. Prof. Yasuhito Jibiki (Tohoku University, Japan) on Social Behavior in Disaster Situations: case study in Mt. Kelud Eruption in 2014, and lecturer by Jane Rovvin (Massey University, New Zealand) on Enhancing Disaster Preparedness for effective response to build knowledge and capacity. Then followed with skype lecture by Prof. Weisen Lie (National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, Taiwan) on How to Integrate Science and Technology to Engage DRR Application to Support Decision Making. The last lecture was by Prof. Takako Izumi (International Research Institute of Disaster Research, Tohoku University) on Investigating in Disaster Risk Reduction: Promote cooperation between academic, scientific and research entities and networks with private sector.
The Annual Scientific Meeting of Disaster Research is opportunity to RDI to more known in communities that interested in disaster risk reduction especially the practitioners, NGO, and INGO who have experienced in DRR and Emergency Response.
