On 22 - 23 March 2022, RDI representatives, Nadiya Pranindita from REER Cluster, along with Indonesian delegates from Yayasan Rumah Energi and Ecody, attended and participated in the Digital Biogas Cooperation (DiBiCoo) Study Tour, South Africa. This was a hybrid event where the offline meeting took place at several biogas industries and the GreenCape offices. Throughout this event, all participants achieved several objectives such as understanding the current context and impact of digestate on biogas project development and implementation in South Africa, along with the case and field study on biogas industries.

The first day of the agenda was a visit to Bronkhorstspruit Biogas Project and Riverside Piggeries in Johannesburg. Moving to Cape Town in the next day, South African capacity building workshop 2  was conducted where it discuss the  Digestate management and beneficiation. On this capacity building, there were 3 presenters. The first one was Yaseen Salie (GreenCape) to discuss the  Current context of digestate in South Africa. The next one, there was Dr Gamuchirai Mutezo (SABIA) who presented the overview and strategy for digestate management and valorization in RSA, followed by Jorge Hilbert (INTA) who brought out a resentation on the life cycle assessment (LCA) studies conducted in Argentina for biogas and digestate. Besides that, there was interactive sessions between participants and presenters. The third day of the Study Tour was a visit to Distell, Worcester, and New Horizons Energy Cape Town.

Overall, RDI was pleased to be a part of this Study Tour and earned the chance to learn more about the biogas industry in South Africa. The whole activity brought out a lot of new knowledge to learn. Some pieces of knowledge might be potentially implemented in Indonesia, based on its conditions. Moreover, gathering with biogas experts from South Africa was expected to open the opportunity for South-South cooperation. We look forward to more of DiBiCoo field activities in near future.
